USF professor leverages AI expertise to launch compliance startup

John Licato, an assistant professor at the University of South Florida, understands the hype of artificial intelligence more than most. That's why he wants to capitalize on his expert background to start an innovative AI company to help other companies. Dr. John Licato was the Principal Investigator (PI) for a Fall 2023 USF I-Corps team.

Greatly influenced by the women in her life, chemical engineer Dr. Norma Alcantar uses nature’s prickly plants to point to innovative and sustainable solutions in materials science and chemical engineering. Dr. Norma Alcantar was the Principal Investigator (PI) for a 2015 national NSF I-Corps team.
Following commercialization, USF tech provides sanitation to South Africa

Hundreds of elementary school students in South Africa now have access to clean water and sanitation thanks to the commercialization of technology built at USF. The solar-powered NEWgenerator provides off-grid sanitation technology and generates nutrients, energy and water by safely recovering them from human wastewater. Dr. Daniel Yeh was the Principal Investigator (PI) for a 2015 national NSF I-Corps team and a Spring 2016 USF I-Corps team.

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) today released its biennial report on the efficacy of the NSF Innovation Corps (I-Corps™) program. The report highlights I-Corps impacts, including details about the implementation of the program at three agencies: NSF, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Energy (DOE). This year's report describes how I-Corps responds to four urgent national needs: training an entrepreneurial workforce, translating technologies, enabling economic impact, and nurturing an innovation ecosystem.
USF launches BRIGHT Network to help human trafficking victims

A team of researchers with the University of South Florida is hoping a new online platform will help victims of human trafficking escape and start their new life. The Bridging Resources and Information Gaps in Human Trafficking (BRIGHT) Network allows non-profits that work to help victims coordinate and connect to resources for things like healthcare, housing, food or legal aid. Dr. Shelly Wagers was the Principle Investigator (PI) on a Fall 2020 USF I-Corps team.
