Ten USF I-Corps Teams — one of the largest cohorts to date — completed the Fall 2016 "I-Corps Bootcamp" on October 27, 2016. The graduates were recognized at a special ceremony held in The Galleria at USF CONNECT, part of the USF Research Park. I-Corps Invention Helps USF Earn Ranking Among Top 10 Universities for Most Patents

New rankings have placed USF in the top 10 with the amount of patents granted for new inventions — putting students, faculty and staff in the national spotlight. A USF I-Corps Team invention called the Mtip is featured in this news video by 10 News Tampa Bay.

NIH Announces "$100,000 for Start a Startup Challenge" for Biotech Teams
July 15, 2016
The National Institutes of Health-National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) announced the first competition for biomedical scientists with the goal to support research ideas related to substance use disorders that can be fostered into a biotech startup. In 2016, NIDA will award up to $100,000 in prizes to up to 10 winners of the contest, $10,000 each. The deadline for submission is September 16, 2016.

USF I-Corps Site Announces Dates for 2016 Fall Cohort

The USF I-Corps site will hold its 2016 Fall six week training course on Thursday mornings from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on September 22 and 29 and October 6, 13, 20, and 27. This National Science Foundation (NSF) sponsored program is designed as an experiential learning course for teams of university researchers, graduate students, and business mentors to evaluate the commercial potential of their ideas, inventions, technology, software, and other intellectual property.

USF I-Corps Inaugural Class Named USF I-Corps Fellows

More than two dozen USF students, faculty, and business mentors completed USF's inaugural I-Corps Boot Camp, and were recognized as USF I-Corps Fellows. They were presented with Certificates of Completion by Dr. Paul R. Sanberg, Ph.D., D.Sc., USF Senior Vice President for Research, Innovation & Economic Development, at the closing ceremony.

Bay News 9 Story Features USF I-Corps Team's New App to Track Heart Health

Hear how a USF I-Corps team developed an Android application that helps patients with congestive heart failure track their health. Ponrathi Athilingham, Ph.D., Miguel Labrador, Ph.D., and Bradlee Jenkins, Ph.D. Candidate, launched their idea in USF's I-Corps bootcamp, then were selected to take it to the National Science Foundation’s national level I-Corps program.

USF Leads the State with Seven NSF Innovation Corps Team Awards

With seven teams selected for the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps (I-Corps) program in 2015, the University of South Florida ranked first in Florida and third among all universities nationwide. No other university in Florida had more than two teams.

USF I-Corps Leadership Team Certified Lean LaunchPad Educators
Four USF faculty had the opportunity to learn the Lean LaunchPad curriculum directly from its founder, Steve Blank, and Jerry Engel of the UC-Berkeley Haas School of Business. Dr. Sudeep Sarkar, Professor of Computer Science & Engineering; Valerie McDevitt, Associate Vice President for Technology Transfer & Business Partnerships; Richard Berman, Director, Patel College of Global Sustainability and Visiting Social Entrepreneurship Professor in Residence, Muma College of Business; and Glenn Whichard, Licensing Manager, Engineering, USF Patents & Licensing participated in an intensive training workshop in California for faculty of I-Corps Sites around the country.
