2022 SPIE Startup Challenge finalists to showcase emerging photonics innovations

Startup company Ascend Manufacturing is one of 10 finalists competing for the $10,000 prize at the 12th annual SPIE Startup Challenge. The company will showcase their novel 3D printing technology at Photonics West on Jan. 25th. USF Alumni Dr. Justin Nussbaum was the Entrepreneurial Lead (EL) on a Fall 2017 national I-Corps team.

USF Medical Technology Startup SPKL Wins Coveted Cade Prize

New technology created by a USF College of Engineering team to precisely measure blood flow in the body’s tissues — allowing for more accurate medical assessments of strokes, brain injuries and a wide range of diseases — has won the Cade Prize for Innovation, one of the Florida’s top awards for invention. Dr. Ashwin Parthasarathy was the Principle Investigator (PI) and Karthik Sriram, a USF alum was the Mentor (M) on a Spring 2020 USF I-Corps team.

Benefits and Difficulties of Academics Working with Industry to Commercialize Research

USF mechanical engineering professor Dr. Kyle Reed and Moterum Technologies Inc. CEO David Huizenga came together for a conversation on the difficulties of bringing research to market in a workshop sponsored by the USF Chapter of the National Academy of Inventors. Moterum Technologies, Inc., licensed a patent from USF based on Dr. Reed's research. Dr. Kyle Reed was the Principle Investigator (PI) for a 2014 national NSF I-Corps team.

Commercialization of USF-invented sanitation system set to begin
September 15, 2021
The latest version of the USF-invented NEWgenerator is on its way to South Africa to begin the process of entering mass production. The solar-powered machine generates nutrients, energy and water by safely recovering them from human wastewater ­– a technology built to address global sanitation concerns. Dr. Daniel Yeh was the Principal Investigator (PI) for a 2015 national NSF I-Corps team and a Spring 2016 USF I-Corps team.



DOE Announces Nearly $65 Million for Biofuels Research to Reduce Airplane and Ship Emissions

T2C-Energy was selected to design a demonstration scale plant that converts waste landfill gas to SAF or renewable diesel. Dr. John Kuhn was the Principle Investigator (PI) for a Fall 2017 national NSF I-Corps team and a Fall 2018 USF I-Corps team.


12th Annual Cade Prize Announces Fibonacci Finalists

Congratulations to USF startup SPKL, LLC and its founders, USF College of Engineering Assistant Professor Ashwin Parthasarathy and biomedical engineering master's degree alum Karthik Sriram, who were named finalists for the Cade Prize.
