A Patent for Humanity

Created by a team of USF engineers led by Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Daniel Yeh, human wastewater converter NEWgenerator will be recognized as a winner of the 2020 Patents for Humanity award by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Dr. Daniel Yeh was the Principal Investigator (PI) for a 2015 national NSF I-Corps team and a Spring 2016 USF I-Corps team.
NASA testing USF technology for possible use on the moon

A technology created at USF could help enable the establishment of a permanent presence on the moon. Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Daniel Yeh has been collaborating with NASA to develop a system that converts human waste into fertilizer and water, which would allow astronauts to grow fresh vegetables in space in a more sustainable way. Dr. Daniel Yeh was the Principal Investigator (PI) for a 2015 national NSF I-Corps team and a Spring 2016 USF I-Corps team.
ISDS Professors Land Rare National Science Foundation Grant

An artificial intelligence-based software designed to help PhD students formulate their paths through the rigorous academic programs and subsequent careers is being designed by a group of USF faculty and alumni, including three from the Muma College of Business’ Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department.
EdVision Corp. was awarded a $224,986 National Science Foundation (NSF) STTR Phase I grant to continue their research and development for the project titled “STTR Phase I: EdVision: AI-powered academic guidance for PhD programs.” Dr. Manish Agrawal was the Principal Investigator (PI) and Dr. Kaushik Dutta was the Mentor on the EdVisionApp project for a Fall 2018 I-Corps team.

Biotech startup IstoVisio Inc., developer of scientific data visualization and annotation system “syGlass”, announced it has received a Direct-to-Phase II, 2-year, $1.6 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant through the National Institute of Mental Health of the National Institutes of Health BRAIN Initiative. Dr. George Spirou was the Principal Investigator (PI) and Michael Morehead was the Entrepreneurial Lead (EL) on the syGlass project for a Spring 2019 USF I-Corps team.
